✨ How to Free Yourself from Comparison
Oct 14, 2025
Transform your life and career in a way that doesn’t burn you out
One of the biggest things that caused me anxiety was comparing myself on LinkedIn. Especially when I was let go and trying to figure out my next move. I’d scroll and see everyone posting their wins, and it would trigger this internal pressure like, “Why am I not doing that too?”
The problem wasn’t just comparison. It was that I was comparing myself to five different people doing five completely different things—and expecting myself to do all of them at once.
You’re Probably Expecting Yourself to Be Everyone
Here’s a real example.
I saw one post from a woman launching her own career coaching business. I immediately thought, “Yes, I should be doing that. Why am I not?”
Then I saw another post from someone running a startup for 12 years who was releasing a new course on marketing. That made me feel like I should do that too.
Then someone else got promoted to director. And that triggered something else.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that these were three totally different people. But in my mind, I was holding myself to all of their paths at once. Am I really expecting myself to split into three people and do everything perfectly? No. So why be so hard on myself?
Better Questions to Ask
When I feel pulled into comparison now, I ask myself:
- What vision of myself do I have in my career?
- What does success actually look like to me?
For me, it’s usually something like freedom—freedom over my time, where I live, how I spend my energy. And bridging tech with integrative health is still at the center of everything I want to build.
Then I ask:
- What can I focus on in the next month that gets me closer to that vision?
There’s no one path to get there. We’re allowed to try different things.
Once I remember that, it becomes easier to let go of what everyone else is doing and focus on what I actually want.
Celebrate Where You Are And How Far You’ve Come Along
It also helps to focus on what is going well.
Like, wow—I became a coach last year. I’ve worked with people and seen actual results. That’s something to be proud of.
It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come when you’re always looking ahead or sideways.
If You’re Doing Something New, It’s Going to Feel Awkward
When you’re just starting out as a coach or entrepreneur, there’s going to be a weird in-between phase. Like a baby learning to swim. It’s exciting and terrifying at the same time. You can’t compare yourself to someone who’s been doing this for ten years.
Take Time to Look Back, Not Just Always Sprinting Forward
One of the most helpful things I do is pause and look back. I sit down and really feel into what worked, what didn’t, what gave me energy, and what drained me.
That helps me make clearer choices going forward. It gets me out of comparison and back into what feels right for me.
You don’t need to be doing everything. You just need to keep showing up for your own path.
That’s enough.
