✨ Designing a Life That Moves With the Seasons
Sep 16, 2025
How aligning your habits with natural cycles creates more energy, clarity, and ease
I used to plan my life as if I were a machine.
Same goals, same energy, same structure—every week, every month, every quarter.
No wonder I burned out.
And no wonder so many of us start a new habit and can’t stick with it. We’re trying to force our energy into a structure that never changes.
But we’re not machines.
We’re living systems.
And living systems move in cycles.
That’s why in my Life Design work—and in the Sage Method—I’ve started weaving in seasonal and daily rhythms as a foundation for behavior change.
Because if your energy is constantly shifting…
Then your habits should too.
What If Your Habits Were Seasonal, Not Static?
Most habit frameworks don’t account for this.
They tell you to do the same thing every day. At the same time. With the same intensity.
But nature doesn’t work like that.
Your body, mind, and spirit don’t either.
So instead of treating wellness like a to-do list, I started aligning my life with something older than productivity culture:
The rhythm of the Earth. The rhythm of the day. The rhythm of you.
The Seasonal Clock: Five Elements + Ritucharya
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, each season has its own energy, element, and focus.
Here’s how I use them to guide my routines, rituals, and goals.
Spring: Wood (Growth + Detox)
This is the season of starting over.
In TCM, it’s associated with the liver—so it’s about movement, cleansing, and breaking stagnation.
In Ayurveda, it’s a prime time for detox and discipline.
Focus on:
- Greens, light food, liver-supporting herbs
- Stretching, walking, and creative brainstorming
- Journaling on what’s ready to grow next
👉🏽 Great time for habit resets, fresh projects, and new ideas.
Summer: Fire (Expansion + Joy)
High energy, outward expression, connection.
Both TCM and Ayurveda say this is the season of heat—so your body and mind need cooling practices to stay regulated.
Focus on:
- Cooling foods, heart-opening meditations, and fun movement
- Creative expression, connection, and laughter
- Protecting energy while showing up fully
👉🏽 Great time for launches, social goals, visibility, and pleasure-based habits.
Late Summer: Earth (Nourishment + Stability)
This transitional season is often forgotten, but it’s key.
It’s about grounding, nourishing, and integrating what’s just bloomed.
Focus on:
- Warm, earthy meals (root veggies, oats)
- Slower movement, body care, boundaries
- Simplifying your goals
👉🏽 Great time for course-correcting, simplifying routines, and building consistency.
Autumn: Metal (Release + Refinement)
Now is the time to let go.
You don’t harvest everything. You choose what to keep and what to compost.
Focus on:
- Breathwork, journaling, warming spices
- Shadow work, cleansing, releasing pressure
- Creating space (physically + emotionally)
👉🏽 Great time for editing, pruning, and ending what’s no longer aligned.
Winter: Water (Rest + Reflection)
Deepest Yin. The pause. The stillness before anything new can begin.
This is the hardest for most people—and the most important.
Focus on:
- Rest, hot meals, quiet mornings
- Baths, dreams, deep journaling
- Lowering your output and tuning inward
👉🏽 Great time for healing, recharging, dreaming up your next evolution.
The Daily Clock: Circadian & Elemental Rhythms
Just like the seasons, your energy shifts throughout the day.
TCM’s body clock maps this beautifully across organs and emotions—but even if you don’t know the details, you’ve felt the difference between morning energy and evening energy.
Here’s how I align my daily design:
Morning (Cortisol Peak)
- Clear mind
- Best for deep work, movement, and planning
- Most willpower + decision-making energy
👉🏽 Ideal for meditation, strategy, creative focus, and walks
Afternoon (Digestive Power + Social Energy)
- Grounded, but less intense
- Good for meetings, food, and integration
- Best time for your biggest meal
👉🏽 Ideal for collaboration, admin, gentle productivity
Evening (Melatonin Rising)
- The body begins to slow
- Emotions surface
- Mind unwinds if allowed to
👉🏽 Ideal for yin movement, cooking, reading, reflection, baths
What This Means for You
If you’re constantly fighting your energy—you’re going to burn out.
If you’re expecting yourself to be the same every day—you’ll lose momentum.
If you’re pushing through when you actually need to pause—you’ll wonder why your habits don’t stick.
But if you listen…
- You’ll notice when your body wants to move or be still
- You’ll design habits that feel natural, not forced
- You’ll feel more spacious, not guilty
- You’ll create from alignment—not adrenaline
That’s the difference.
In the Life Design Course, We’ll Build This Together
I’ll walk you through how to:
- Design daily and seasonal rituals that match your energy
- Use TCM and Ayurvedic guidance to align your habits with nature
- Build behavior loops that evolve with you
- Track your energy to inform your actions—not override them
- Know when to push and when to pause
- Create seasonal life design resets that support your body, business, and emotional cycles
Because you’re not just building habits.
You’re building a life that works with you.
